International Schools Choral Music Society in Qingdao

Eleven of our talented instrumentalists and musicians recently represented Dulwich College Seoul at the International Schools Choral Music Society (ISCMS) festival in Qingdao, joining students from leading schools across Asia for a celebration of musical excellence, collaboration and cultural exchange.

Hosted at The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao, the event brought together young performers in an inspiring environment where music is placed at the heart of learning. Students had the opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside peers from across the region while developing their confidence, musicianship and ensemble skills.

Throughout the festival, participants worked on a varied and challenging repertoire featuring works by celebrated composers including John Rutter, Joseph Haydn, Aaron Copland and Louis Hérold. Through full ensemble rehearsals and sectional sessions, students refined their technique while learning the importance of teamwork, discipline and communication.
The orchestra was led by internationally respected conductor Robert G. Hasty, while the choir was directed by renowned choral conductor David Squire. Students also benefited from observing masterclasses led by distinguished guest artists, offering valuable insight into professional performance standards and musical interpretation.

Beyond the rehearsal rooms, the experience also provided students with the chance to build friendships, share cultures and create lasting memories with fellow young musicians from across Asia.
Participation in ISCMS reflects Dulwich College Seoul’s commitment to providing exceptional opportunities beyond the classroom, allowing students to pursue their passions, challenge themselves and grow as confident global citizens.
