- International Outdoor Learning: Survival Skills with Sinbanpo MS
On Tuesday 23 September, Dulwich College Seoul welcomed twenty Year 9 students to join twenty 2nd-grade students from Sinbanpo Middle School for an international joint class held in the rooftop garden above the swimming pool.
Led by our Head of Outdoor Education, Mark Lovett, the session focused on the theme “Survival Skills.” Students began with icebreaker activities before dividing into five mixed groups to take part in the programme.

Working together, they learned how to use a flint and steel to create sparks and use cotton wool to bring that spark to a flame to start a fire. They also explored how to split wood into tinder, kindling, and fuel to turn that small spark into a larger fire suitable for cooking. Having already identified the essential survival needs of water, shelter, and food, students then applied their new skills to make s’mores using marshmallows and chocolate biscuits, which they shared among the groups.
The class lasted around 1 hour and 20 minutes, and the atmosphere was energetic and engaging throughout. Many students expressed disappointment when it came time to finish, a clear reflection of how much they enjoyed the collaborative and hands-on learning experience.
