Ylang Ylang Readspark’s Community Library Journey to a Non-Profit Organisation

What began as a simple dream — giving old and unwanted books and resources a new life — has grown into something truly special. Today, the Ylang Ylang Readspark Community Library, started through the DCSL Charity Committee, proudly celebrates a milestone: we are now officially a registered non-profit organisation!
This is more than just a legal milestone. It’s a promise to build a transparent and sustainable organisation that stays true to its mission and vision: creating a space where children and young people can discover the joy of learning, explore new ideas, and imagine a brighter future.

Growing Beyond Books
The library is more than a place to read — it’s a place to dream. In the province of Pangasinan where the library is situated, public schools often face limited resources, and children don’t always have enough books or learning materials. The Ylang Ylang Library steps in, offering literacy programs, remedial classes, and mentorship to help children reach their full potential.
Ms. Campos, a DCSL teacher and Charity Committee member leading the initiative, has been meeting with the Public School Division Superintendent to ensure partnerships and provide support for local public schools around the library. Currently, the library has partnered with 20 public schools, helping children gain access to reading materials, tutorials, and mentoring programs.
She has also met with local university stakeholders to establish a student volunteer program, making the library’s mentoring and literacy programs sustainable while giving university students a meaningful way to contribute to the community.

Building a Lasting Impact
Becoming a non-profit allows us to receive donations and resources that keep our programs running. More importantly, it enables the library to build long-term partnerships, ensuring that mentoring, literacy, numeracy and livelihood programs have lasting impact.
This collaborative spirit reflects Sustainable Development Goals 17 (SDGs 17): Partnerships for the Goals, showing that meaningful change happens when communities, schools, and organisations work together.
Truly, DCSL reaches far beyond Seoul and Korea. The Ylang Ylang Library demonstrates how one community’s care can travel across oceans to touch lives in Pangasinan Philippines. Each book shared, volunteer hour given, and partnership formed helps transform tomorrow — together.

A Journey Made Possible by Community
From the very beginning, when the library was just a dream of giving old and unwanted books and resources a new life, the DCSL community has stood by us. Every donation, every volunteer hour, and every encouraging word has helped build the foundation for what Ylang Ylang Library is today.
As DCSL celebrates its 15th anniversary with the theme “Transforming Tomorrow Together,” we are thrilled to be part of this journey. With the energy of volunteers, the generosity of donors, and the curiosity of young learners, Ylang Ylang Readspark Community Library will continue to grow — one child, one book, one dream at a time.
